Workplace Improvement Updates
8.15.22
Back in April 2022, I announced recent and upcoming improvements to the workplace at ICON Injection Molding; I also teased some upcoming projects I could not yet speak on. As 2022 has progressed, I am excited that several of these improvement projects have come to fruition!
In June 2022, we completed our transition to BambooHR for HR-related company functions. We’ve gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback from our staff about this major workplace change—how it has eliminated paperwork, given workers instant access to their personnel information, and how it has freed up HR staff from burdensome administrative functions so that we can refocus on truly being a RESOURCE to workers here at ICON. My staff has been pleased to see the retirement of many paper forms and Excel spreadsheets!
In May 2022, we engaged with Trainual, an online LMS (Learning Management System), which we have used to enhance the onboarding experience for new hires, standardize safety-related training, and supplement the implementation of new software with helpful tips and how-to videos. Every day we are adding new content for our staff in Trainual and are focusing on how it can enrich the careers of workers at ICON. Our goal is to have detailed position-specific training in each department so there is no question in a worker’s mind what they are supposed to be doing, how to do it correctly, safely, and efficiently, and where they can turn to if they have any questions. I am looking forward to seeing how Trainual can enhance the manner in which we train workers for internal promotion, bolstering our commitment to turning jobs into lifelong careers.
For much of my career I have been a proponent of not paying someone for something that you are able to do yourself. This manifested itself in a robust system of paper forms, files, and binders, and detailed Excel spreadsheets. While this was fine in the 2000s (for a small company), as marketplace offerings expand and a company grows, the benefits of technology cannot be ignored. The most successful organizations of today have recognized the power of convenience and efficiency, embracing technology. Making mundane administrative tasks easier for our staff allows them to focus on the important aspects of their job—our customers’ parts. Improving our training and increasing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of our workers results in a direct gain to our stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Keep an eye out for updates; there is more to come!
